The newly elected president of the Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA), Bar. Smart Nwobi, has emphasized the importance of implementing bilateral agreements between Nigeria and South Africa to ease the regulatory and economic barriers faced by Nigerian entrepreneurs.
In his acceptance speech, Bar. Nwobi pledged to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians, particularly those navigating business challenges in South Africa.
He stated that his election would herald signaling a renewed focus on fostering business-friendly policies and community development for Nigerians in South Africa.
The election took place during the union’s 2024 Elective Congress on December 7 in Witbank, Mpumalanga, South Africa, drawing significant participation from members across the country.
“My team and I are committed to addressing the hurdles faced by our members, especially in business, while fostering unity and collaboration with South African institutions. Together, we will work towards building a stronger, more inclusive community for all Nigerians in South Africa,” Nwobi said.
In a statement, he said the new NUSA leadership team reflects a blend of expertise and dedication, with Hon. Onoriode Collins Potokri as Vice-President, Mr. Jola-Michael Abayomi as Secretary-General, and Mr. Bright Osadebamwen Coker as Assistant Secretary-General. The financial affairs will be overseen by Mr. Somadina Christian Okeke, while Dr. Fidelis Nwankwo assumes the role of Treasurer.
The team is further strengthened by Prophetess Ngozi Antonia Ozobu as Welfare Officer and Mrs. Ndidi Ossai as Assistant Welfare Officer, both committed to addressing the social challenges faced by Nigerians. Legal matters will be handled by Mrs. Anthonia Omoze Ndubuisi and Mrs. Elsie Ogounga, while Mr. Akindele Olunloyo takes charge as National Publicity Secretary. Organizational coordination will be managed by Mr. Peter Ananaba, supported by Mr. Emeka Dibie as Assistant Organising Secretary.
Nwobi also expressed gratitude for the recent bilateral agreements between South Africa and Nigeria, noting their potential to improve the business climate for Nigerians.
He extended his appreciation to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa for his efforts in facilitating these reforms.
