The Anambra State Police Command of the Nigerian Police Force has declared an officer, Inspector Audu Omadefu, wanted over alleged murder.

Ikenga Tochukwu, the command’s public relations officer, disclosed this in a press statement.

The police spokesperson said the fleeing operative Omadefu can be recognised by his service number AP No. 362178.

According to Tochukwu, the inspector has disappeared into thin air following the accusation of murder against him, as his whereabouts remained unknown.

The police have called upon the public to assist in locating Omadefu, assuring that any information provided will be treated with the highest degree of confidentiality.

The Anambra police also enjoined the residents to report any appearance of the fugitive officer or share any relevant information by contacting the nearest Police Station.

“Alternatively, individuals can reach out directly to the Command’s Control Room at 07039194332 or communicate with the Public Relations Officer via 08039334002,” the statement said.

Nigerians have battled extrajudicial killings executed by trigger-happy policemen before and after the EndSARS protests that swept across the country.

In 2019, three police officers attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Police Command were taken into custody over their involvement in the killing of one Kolade Johnson, in Lagos.

The late Johnson was hit by a stray bullet while watching a football match at 1, Beco Street, Onipetesi, Mangoro Bus Stop.

The policemen, who were four in number, stormed the area to arrest a suspect, but opened fire on the undisclosed person, only for a stray bullet to hit Johnson.

A recent incident of extrajudicial happened on December 25, 2022, when a police officer Drambi Vandi, who fatally shot a Lagos-based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, at the Ajah area of the State.

A judge of the Lagos State High Court, Ibironke Harrison sentenced Vandi to death by hanging for being found guilty of Raheem’s murder.

“The court found the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead,” Harrison said.
