A 1992 Olympics bronze medalist, Christy Opara-Thompson, through her NGO, Soho24Foundation has opened a sport arena to boost sporting activities in Abuja.
Thompson, while opening the Dr. Amos Adamu Sports Arena in Abuja on Saturday, said as an athlete, she knows the place of sports in national development.
“What I am bringing on board is facilities others don’t have in their sport parks and I want to use them to groom potential athletes and give them encouragement. It is my desire to move them to the next level.
“We are starting this project because we need expansion for more activities, we now have the indoor sports arena, basketball, badminton , graded tracks surface area, football field, we have the gymnasium; it’s a one stop shop for sports activities,” she said.
Former executive committee member, FIFA, Dr. Amos Adamu , pointed out that the Soho 24Foundation sports park named after him is piloted by Christy Opara which according to him does not come as a surprise given her track record as a professional athlete.
