The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal is set to reposition dispute resolution and Nigeria’s investment drive, the Minister of Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, has said.

Adebayo spoke Friday during the unveiling of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) (Procedure) Rules 2021 and the opening of the Adeniyi Adebayo Hearing Room in Abuja.

He said the tribunal was being developed as “a veritable economic tool for the implementation of the economic reform agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari through Executive Order 001 on Ease of Doing-Business.”

Earlier, the chairman of the CCPT, Hajia Hanatu Mama Shafi, said the members of the panel chosen from the six geopolitical zones of the country have braved the odds and began to hear cases that make the tribunal a reliable outlet to resolve competition and consumer protection matters.

“The CCPT Procedure Rules 2021 which we are presenting today is a product of a painstaking process of fine-tuning based on our experience in the cases so far handled and a desire to align with best practices in other jurisdictions,” she said.
