Nigerian Christopher Ambe takes an early lead after playing 5 under par (67) through his first 18 holes at the Eko Challenge Cup, taking place at the Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate in Lagos, Nigeria.
Ambe made five birdies, two pars and two bogeys, to finish his first nine holes at -3 (33) before heading to the back nine where he played a bogey free -2 (34) to finish -5 (67) after 18 holes.
This is Ambe’s first tournament on the African Tour, after earning his 2019 card at the Qualifying School held last 18 February.
Ghanaians Vincent Togarh, 2018 winner of the Order of Merit, and Emos Koblarh tied for second place at 3 under par (69).
Sunday Olapade, Alias tied at third position alongside Francis Epe with both returning 2 under par (70) and being trailed by Spain’s Francisco Perez and Nigeria’s Patrick Paul who both carded a -1 (71).
The 40-man field at the second edition of the Eko Challenge Cup is made up of professionals from Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Gabon, Equatorial Guinee, Zimbabwe and Spain.
The Eko Challenge Cup opens the 2019 season of the African Tour which consists of 16 tournaments.
