Texas based Blockchain Engineering Council (BEC), a global body that drives standards, reference models and education in Blockchain Technology, has appointed a Nigerian, Daniel Essien as its Director for Africa.
Daniel has been brought in to push BEC projects and interface with governments and corporations on behalf of the Blockchain Engineering Council in Africa, noted a statement announcing the appointment.
Before joining BEC, Daniel Essien was Founder/CEO of INFRACTA, a Blockchain Infrastructure development interest that builds end-to-end Blockchain infrastructure projects in the African market. He will be retaining his position as CEO of INFRACTA. The appointment as BEC Director for Africa is part of the INFRACTA-BEC partnership’s commitment to promote Blockchain adoption and domestication in Africa.
Daniel holds a Masters Degree in Management from the University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin. He spent his early career in the UK working in the technology outsourcing industry before returning to Nigeria to join a policy consortium to support public policy reform in the key sectors of Energy, Environment, and Agriculture. Specifically, Daniel worked as Senior Economist/Facilitator to support the House of Representatives version of the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB 2018).
As one of the earliest Blockchain advocates in Africa, Daniel has over the past years worked to promote rapid adoption of the technology across the continent to leapfrog its economy into the current technological decade. He has been part of a number of Blockchain education engagements. He was a panelist on the Blockchain Technology segment of the African Economic Congress (AEC) held in 2019.
He will be bringing his over a decade experience in technology and public policy to help drive Digitial Transformation in Africa as part of the INFRACTA-BEC partnership.
