Nigerian artist sets record with N55 million art sale

UK-based Nigerian artist Olaolu Slawn, known simply as Slawn, is on an impressive creative trajectory. His artwork “Alara, Ajero and Orangun” recently sold for an astounding £31,750 (N55,566,500) at an auction.

In addition to his artwork, Slawn is teaming up with Rolex to customise their iconic Datejust watch in a limited-edition release. Only ten pieces will be available, each showcasing Slawn’s distinctive design on the watch dial.

Although Rolex has previously created ‘art dials’, Slawn’s participation has attracted interest from a broader audience, including those who aren’t typically into wristwatches.

Slawn’s creativity isn’t limited to art. He has ventured into fashion, collaborating with streetwear brand Ksubi, contributing to campaigns for Aimé Leon Dore, Burberry, and even working with the late Louis Vuitton creative director, Virgil Abloh.
