Nigerian-American wins Dan David prize

The Dan David Prize, referred to as “the largest history prize in the world”, has been awarded to Saheed Aderinto, a professor of history and African Diaspora studies at the Florida International University.

The Dan David Prize is a prestigious international honour that recognizes and funds exceptional contributions to historical research and other fields that illuminate the past of humanity.

Each year, the Dan David Prize bestows up to nine $300,000 scholarships on deserving early- and mid-career historians and practitioners.

The Dan David Foundation announced the prize on Tuesday, saying Mr Aderinto is one of nine winners who will each receive $300,000 in appreciation of their great scholarship in the historical subject.

The Dan David Prize “recognizes outstanding work that illuminates the past and aims to anchor public conversation in a deeper grasp of history,” with a total monetary prize of $2.7 million.
