Nigeria will meet ITU’s deadline on digitilisation, FG assures

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator Anyim Pious Anyim said the country has put necessary things in place to ensure that it successfully switched from analogue broadcasting to digital before June next year.
Anyim said over 40million set top boxes would be purchased by the government for the digital switch over.
While assuring that poor Nigerians will not be left behind in the digitilisation of broadcast, Anyim, who was represented at the occasion by Ferdinand Agu, said not-well-to-do Nigerians will get 100 per cent subsidies on the prices of set-top boxes.
He said 90 per cent of households across the country would fully switch over to digital broadcasting before the June deadline set by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). In his welcome address, the Director General of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Emeka Mba said the commission embarked on enlightenment campaign to let Nigerians know that digitilisation is not just about technology but also about good content.
