Nigerian Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has revealed that all arrangements have been concluded with Saudi Arabia to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on accident investigation and other air safety measures.
This was disclosed by AIB’s Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Engineer Akin Olateru during a one-day sensitisation symposium on the activities of AIB held in Kano.

Represented by AIB’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, the commissioner said the signing of the agreement has indicated that the Bureau has attained international recognition on its effectiveness and efficiency to conduct investigations on aircraft accidents not only in Nigeria but across the globe.
“We have already signed MoU with France and the Republic of Benin. We have also begun processes of signing an additional MoU with Saudi Arabia and had it not been for COVID-19, the MoU would have been already signed. The bureau had so far issued no fewer than 50 accident reports since it was established adding that between 2017 to 2020, the agency had issued 32 accident reports, which represented 60 percent of accident reports,” he said.
On his part, the Secretary to Kano State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji represented by the Special Adviser on Cabinet Matters, Abdullahi Mohammed, called for regular sensitisation of passengers on air travels safety measures to reduce air accidents across the globe.
