The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Yusuf Tuggar, has listed ways through which the Korea/Africa Summit 2024 can benefit Nigeria.

He spoke Tuesday in Abuja while declaring open a seminar on Nigeria/Korea relations leading to the Korea/Africa Summit, billed for June in Seoul, South Korea.

Daily Trust reports that the seminar was organised by the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD) in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korean.

Tuggar, represented by Amb Janet Olisa, the ministry’s Director of Regions, said the summit would benefit Nigeria by enhancing diplomatic relations, economic opportunities, defence cooperation, technology transfer, infrastructure development, skills development, and cultural exchange.

The minister said Nigeria and Korea, united by a long history of diplomatic relations, had built a legacy of shared achievements.

He said: “Nigeria, a powerhouse in Africa with a thriving economy and a wealth of opportunities, is poised for an exciting future with numerous potential gains from the upcoming Summit.

“Participating in the Korea/Africa Summit 2024 can benefit Nigeria by enhancing diplomatic relations, economic opportunities, defence cooperation, technology transfer, infrastructure development, skills development, and cultural exchange.

“By leveraging these opportunities, Nigeria can further its development goals and strengthen its ties with Korea and other African nations.”

Prof Ibrahim Gambari, Founder/Chairman of SCDDD, said the seminar was organised to figure out how the balance of trade, “which has been in favour of Korea, would be balanced on a more mutually beneficial scale.”

“Korea’s remarkable technological advancements and innovative prowess, coupled with Nigeria’s abundant natural resources and dynamic human capital have created immense opportunities for synergy consolidation and improvement in the partnership.

“By harnessing these opportunities, we can drive a mutually beneficial economic growth, enhance technological exchange, and promote sustainable development,” Gambari added.
