He spoke yesterday at a Capacity Building workshop for District Heads on “Polio Eradication Initiative” organised by the Sultanate Council in collaboration with NPHCDA at the Sultan ‘sPalace , Sokoto.
Dr.Pati recalled that from January to June of last year about 360 cases were recorded nationwide but that it dropped to 28 between July to December following the intervention of the Sultan and others.
According to the NPHCDA boss, if the tempo was maintained, Nigerian would meet its target of becoming a zero-polio-case nation soon while attention would be shifted to other diseases.
Pati lauded the Sultanate Council for its effort in ensuring those at the grass root get necessary information on the immunization of children against the childhood killer diseases.
Also speaking, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III said if government continued to involve traditional rulers in such programmes, a lot would be accomplished since they were closer to the people.
Commissioner of Health, Sokoto State, Dr. Muhammadu Jabbi Kilgori who represented Governor Aliyu Wamakko said over 85 percent of children in the state were immunized this year while no case of polio had so far been reported.
