The Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) says Nigeria recorded 45,614 cases of epidemic-prone diseases in 2019 alone.
The Deputy Director for International Health Regulation in the Centre, Dr Oyeladun Okunromade, said this on Thursday at the meeting of the Sub-national Health Security Assessment of International Health Regulations Core Capacities in Birnin Kebbi.
Dr Okunromade said the outbreak of diseases was associated with high death cases.
According to her, the experience recorded during the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic was a clear indication of the need for public health emergency preparedness at the state level more than ever before to check the outbreak of diseases.
She said controlled measures must be put in place.
In his remark, the Kebbi state Commissioner for Health, Mohammed Jafar, said the present government was ready to partner with NCDC for effective control in the event of any outbreak.
