A total of 41 confirmed cases of monkeypox and one death have so far been recorded across the country this year, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Ifedayo Adetifa, has said.

He stated this Monday during the Federal Ministry of Health’s bi-weekly COVID-19 update in Abuja.

He said among the 41 cases so far reported in 2022, there had been no evidence of any new or unusual transmission of the virus nor changes in its clinical manifestation documented in Nigeria as compared to other countries.

He added that no death had been recorded from COVID-19 in the last five weeks.

The Director-General of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib, said 21,236,404 Nigerians had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 representing only 19 per cent of the targeted population.

Represented by the Director of Planning Research and Statistics of the agency, Dr Garba Bulama, he said the data showed that the country was still far away from achieving 70 per cent of the population set for September.
