Nigeria-manufactured COVID-19 vaccines to be ready next year

COVID-19 vaccines manufactured in Nigeria will be ready next year.

This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Professor Bilbis, during the commissioning of Academic Publication Centre for the Northwest zone constructed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) at the main campus of the institution.

The university is one of the five institutions supported by TETFUND to develop homegrown vaccine for COVID-19.

The agency had given out N1 billion as support to the institution to manufacture the vaccine within 15 months.

Professor Bilbis explained that, already three months out of the timeframe had gone but their scientists were working assiduously to produce the vaccine within the given time.

The Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Professor Suleiman Bogoro, expressed happiness with the development.

On the new centre, he said scarcity of tertiary level texts in Nigeria had reached a crisis proportion as evident not only in the quality of books available but also in the quantity of books produced locally.
