‘Nigeria loses N15trn to climate change impacts’

Director, Centre for Climate Change and Development, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Anambra State, Professor Chukwumerije Okereke, says Nigeria loses N15trn to impacts of climate change yearly.

Okereke, who is also the president, Society for Planet and Prosperity, a non-governmental organisation, spoke in Abuja Thursday at ‘Nigeria: Top Ten Net Zero Measures Stakeholders Workshop.’

He said if appropriate actions were not taken to mitigate the impacts of climate change, Nigeria would be losing N69trn annually by 2050.

He listed measures that could reduce the amount of anthropogenic emissions as organic agricultural farming, climate smart agriculture that could create jobs and afforestation that could engender sustainable development.
