A Professor of Economics in the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Edet Akpakpan, has said Nigeria is naive in the implementation of technology programmes and policies.

Akpakpan attributed the failure of Nigeria to develop tecnologically to misconceptions and inadequacies in the design of her technology policies and programme.

He was yesterday in Uyo while presenting a paper titled, “Developing appropriate technological capabilities for economic and social transformation” at a conference on Nigeria Economy and Society.

The conference has the theme “Managing the Nigeria Economy and Society: Time to Think the Unthinkable.”

The professor said the worse evil is the “naivety and frivolity” in the implementation of policies and programmes in technology.

In the conference organised by the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chief Anthony Ani Chair of Public Finance of the University of Uyo, he said most countries of the world including Nigeria, Brazil, China, India adopted a combination of local research and development efforts and transfer of technologies.
