A civil society organisation, Association of Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), in Adamawa State has said that Nigeria has the highest number of global malaria cases and deaths.
The state Programme Officer (ACOMIN), Laurettha Charles, disclosed this to newsmen during an advocacy -focused media meeting held on Thursday in Yola.
She reiterated the importance of engaging the media to create more awareness on the dangers of Malaria in Adamawa State as that has become a challenge for them each time they are visiting a facility in any of the LGAs in the state.
She said despite efforts made to contain the disease, Nigeria still has a long way to go in order to achieve control of the deadly disease.
Lauretha said as part of national effort to address the challenges of Malaria, ACOMIN has been re-engaged by the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) under the ongoing Global Fund to continue implementing the civil society component having successfully done this from 2019 to 2020.
