Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria are set to benefit from the dual vocational training by Giessen Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in Germany, which would further scale up specialised skills in the country.
The president, Giessen Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Matthias Leder, disclosed this on Tuesday during a meeting in Abuja at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Leder noted that one major reason for the dual vocational training system is to tackle the unemployment rate in Nigeria
He said, “We are giving chances to the people of Nigeria, MSMEs and apprentices to attend vocational training school in Germany and at the same time they work in a company where they get immediate feedback with what they learn at the vocational training school. What they learn is then adapted for the market and they get job offers. So, we are convinced that this is a key factor for the development and the growth of Nigeria.
“There will be an international conference, B2B conference, ‘the World Meeting Giessen’ in May 2025 for MSMEs where company owners during the conference will have easy access for entering foreign countries with low entry barriers. Companies from all over the world can come to Giessen to meet and pitch. And to support these companies, we also invite the honorable Minister, industry, trade and investment”.
Earlier, the minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, said, “These are in alignment with the priorities of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment. It’s a great opportunity, so I’m sure that they will take you up on it and we look forward to seeing how we might possibly participate as a ministry in this year’s conference. We’re always open to opportunities for Nigerian youth.”
