The chief of staff to the president, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, yesterday said Nigeria could not afford to substitute democracy as a form of government.
Gambari said this in Ilorin, Kwara State capital while delivering the 12th convocation lecture of the Al-Hikmah University.
The lecture was titled, “Democratic Transition and Challenges of Good Governance and Human Security in Nigeria.”
He said that despite the challenges facing the country in its democratic journey, the system still offerred the best form of governance to achieve the aspirations of its founding fathers.

“As we match towards the 2023 general elections, the political society must remind Nigerians that despite the plethora of challenges facing the country and the toughness of the times, democratic governance still offers the best chance for the achievement of our national transformation.
“It provides the most solid transformation for realising our national greatness. The importance and urgency to ensure that our democratic governance works to advance human security cannot be overstated,” he said.
