Former governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa has said the only way Nigeria could move forward is when leaders learn to be de-tribalised in the affairs of governance.

He added that Nigeria needs a democrat as a president, one who would unite the nation.

Bafarawa, who is a presidential aspirant under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 election, made this known in Abakaliki where he met with the state governor, Engr. David Umahi at the Government House and delegates of the party thereafter.

“In Nigerian democracy, we are electing people who are not democrat, people who are tribalistic and giving them top positions, which is very dangerous.

“I have said it before now that the only way Nigeria would move forward is when leaders learn to be de-tribalised in the affairs of governance”, he said.

Bafarawa, who was a two time governor of Sokoto state under the umbrella of defunct All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP), further appealled to delegates from Ebonyi to vote for him in the forthcoming presidential primaries of PDP.

Also speaking, Governor Umahi noted that in the south east particularly, the PDP would work together to ensure successful primaries and elect presidential candidate with great experience.

“We need to agree and tell whoever is going to be our next president: this is how you are going to govern us. This is how we will like you to remember us and this is how we want you to carry us along.

“Detribalization is very important. You scored some goals by having your overall manager from a different zone. It shows your heart of accommodation”, Umahi said.
