Nigerian authorities and representatives of Benin Republic have concluded arrangements for the establishment of a one-stop border post.

The joint border post is to be established between the borders of the two countries at Tsamiya in Kebbi and Segbana in Benin Republic.

The arrangement was the outcome of a meeting between the Comptroller of Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, who represented Nigeria and Aroune Darmane, the Head of Customs at Sebgana Border who represented Benin Republic.

It was a follow-up to the first meeting between the two countries on May 21, this year at Segbana, Benin Republic to streamline socio-economic activities between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

While speaking to journalists, Ojike said the one-stop border post arrangement would fine-tune the operational modality that will benefit both countries.

He added that Nigeria and Benin Republic are signatories to the World Trade Organisation and World Customs Organisation which have the principles of the one-stop border post.

Ojike said with this arrangement, there will be a joint agency inspection for goods and persons to ensure security and trade.
