Six African nations are set to hit Lagos to participate in the International Cricket Council (ICC) sanctioned tournament, the Nigeria Cricket Federation, NCF Women’s T20 International Tournament.
The tournament is billed to be held at the newly commissioned Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Oval from March 28 to April 3, 2022, in Lagos.
The maiden edition of this female cricket tournament will be played in T20 format and a six-nation event with Cameroon, Ghana, Sierra Leone, the Gambia and Rwanda confirming participation.
The General Manager, Nigeria Cricket Federation, Mr Emeka Igwilo, has confirmed that the cricket tournament is going to be an ICC ranking event and has the potential of being hosted annually.
“All teams that are playing are also on the radar of ICC. The target is for it to be an annual event. You know Nigeria is already a big player in the continent when it comes to Cricket. Nigeria is doing well in female and male crickets.
“The earlier we start to make our position in female cricket the better for us.” Mr Igwilo said in a statement.
Participating countries are expected to arrive Lagos on 26th March and practice on 27th March 2022.
