Niger youths threaten to shut Shiroro, Kainji, Jebba power plants

Youths under the auspices Youth Lead Nigeria have threatened to shut down the three power plants of Shiroro, Kainji and Jebba over epileptic power supply across Niger state.

The President of the group and convener of the protest tagged #powerpowerstate, Comrade Mohammed Etsu during a press conference at the weekend in Minna vowed that the youths would resume protest they suspended recently.

He said that all youths from the state will commence a sit out protest that will culminate in the shutdown of Shiroro hydro electricity power station if the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) failed to meet the demand of steady electricity supply in the state.

He said the youths group has also engaged legal experts to institute a suit against the AEDC for a compensation of  N100 billion as damages incurred by customers resulting from estimated billings and frequent power surge in which several people have died and houses burnt without compensation.

 He said that the suit will soon come up for hearing at the High Court.
