The Niger State Government said it can generate billions of naira annually from trucks passing through Bida as the federal government plans to reintroduce the tolling system.
The state’s governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, stated this during the flag-off of the Bida township road dualization project, according to a statement by Bologi Ibrahim, the governor’s media aide.
“Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has disclosed that the state can generate billions of naira annually from trucks passing through Bida, as the tolling system would soon be re-introduced in Nigeria,” the statement said.
Governor Bago said with three million trucks traversing Bida each month, the state stands to significantly boost its revenue through toll collections, particularly along the Bida Ring Road.

He said establishing trailer parks for these trucks could serve as another effective revenue-generating strategy.
Governor Bago also disclosed plans to concession some toll gates in Niger State to private individuals, aiming to enhance transparency and accountability in revenue collection.
He said the concessions would not only create job opportunities, especially for youth but also align with his administration’s commitment to efficient governance.
