Niger kidnapped victims regain freedom after paying N1. 7m

After spending some days in kidnappers’ den, the five victims kidnapped at Avu of Gupa-Abugi community in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State have regained their freedom after paying N1.7 million ransom.
One of the victims said they were accompanied by the kidnappers to the backyard of their village and were set free at around 1am,  saying that they were taken across River Gurara into Kogi State before they negotiated with their families.
The victim further revealed that their abductors gave them  N10, 000 from the ransom collected to buy slippers for themselves as they were released to join their families.
He also lamented that they were kept in a cave throughout their abduction after walking for hours throughout the night of the incident.
It would be recalled that last week Thursday,. a number of gunmen attacked Avu community in Gupa- Abugi ward of Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State where 5 persons were abducted and one person was killed by the gunmen.
The attackers, according to a source, stormed the village in their numbers around 1 am and opened fire on a large number of people who were scampering for safety upon seeing them.
Narrating, a member of the village, Idris Musa Avu, said “The gun men arrived the village around 1:00 am, in large number and upon seeing them, people started scampering for safety as the attackers were shooting sporadically.
“One person was killed and six people were kidnapped.”
Musa added that the vigilantes in the community tried their best to confront the gunmen but could not get police back up as of the time of the attack.
