Niger state government has acquired a 50 hectares of land for the establishment of a rice mill by the Dangote Group.

Daily Trust recalls that the establishment of a multi-million Naira mill form part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Dangote Group and the state government in 2017.

The Commissioner for Land and Housing, Malam Isah Kanko, told newsmen on Sunday that already N36 million has been paid to 37 households in Wushishi local government area of the state for the project.

The commissioner explained that by Land Used Act, the state government has the right to acquire land for development but compensation is required for loss of economic trees and other properties on the affected land.

He said government was transparent in all the processes leading to securing the land in question.

He said the land acquired would be handed over to the Dangote Group at a later date, adding that with the land issue laid to rest, the company would be able to accelerate works on the mill.

He said the proposed mill would be one of its kinds in the country, adding that the rice processed therein would be code named Wushishi Rice.
