Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has paid fines for the release of 30 inmates in the old and new correctional centres in Minna, the state capital.
Gov Bago, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, disclosed the payment of the fines during a visit to both centres as part of commemoration of his one year in office.
The governor also presented malaria drugs and food items worth millions of naira to the officials of the centres to cushion the effects of the economic hardship.
Bago said the freed inmates would also be empowered to make them productive members of society.
