Niger farmers seek security cover to harvest crops

Farmers whose crops were recently burnt by bandits on the outskirts of Kontagora, the headquarters of Kontagora LGA of Niger State, have called on the federal and state governments to deploy adequate security operatives to the area to enable them harvest the remaining crops.

City & Crime earlier reported how bandits set ablaze crops assembled by some farmers on the outskirts of Kontagora and threatened through notes dropped on each to cause more havoc if N30m was not given to them by each farmer.

One of the affected farmers told our correspondent on telephone that, “We have not recovered from this disaster. We were all celebrating that we had high yields this year before the disaster. Government should help us with security to harvest the remaining crops.”
