The Madalla weekly market in Suleja LGA of Niger State was yesterday pulled down by the authorities of the local government area with the directive of the state government amid chaos and confusion by the traders.
City & Crime reports that a quit notice was issued by the Suleja LGA last week that the weekly market would not be allowed to take place after last Thursday due to perennial hold up that the market usually cause on Thursdays.
The council’s chairman, Isyaku Bawa Naibi, accompanied by policemen and officials from the Niger State Transport Management Agency led the demolition exercise, which started around 11 am yesterday.
Artisans were seen pulling down iron barriers earlier erected around the market to stop encroachment, just as traders were busy parking their goods out of the market amid confusion.

Youths were also seen looting roofing zincs and shops.
A trader, Auwalu Usman, said most of them don’t have idea about where to go.
Responding, the council chairman, said the action became necessary due to the failure of the traders to adhere to the directive given by the state governor, Umar Muhammad Bago, to avoid displaying their goods around the road corridor.
He said there was alternative market opposite Zuma rock for the traders, adding that work to convert the new area to a standard modern market will now begin.
