Niger council chairman suspended over ‘misappropriation of fund’

The Chairman, Bida Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, Dr Suleiman Sheshi, has been suspended by the legislative arm of the LGA.

The letter of suspension, dated November 8, 2021, and addressed to the governor of the state, Abubakar Sani Bello, was obtained by Daily Trust.

The letter was signed by the House Leader, Nma Alhaji Shehu.

The councillors said the council chairman was suspended for six months for three offences including alleged misappropriation of local government funds and execution of projects without seeking approval of the legislature.

“The Executive Chairman is misappropriating the Local Government funds without the consent and approval of the legislative house,” the letter read in part.

The suspension move was endorsed and signed by 12 out of the 14 councillors in the council.

A copy of the letter was sent to the State House of Assembly, Ministry for Local Government, security agencies among others.
