Residents of Kagara, the headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area in Niger State, have raised concerns over frequent attacks by unidentified groups.
According to a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, these attacks have resulted in several killings and injuries among the local population. The assailants reportedly operate in groups on motorcycles, targeting individuals indiscriminately, even during daylight hours, and taking them into the bush without explanation.
Just three days ago, one of the victims was a former councilor who was reportedly abducted while performing ablution for Ishai prayers. He was later released after questioning about his livelihood.
Confirming the incidents, SP Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, acknowledged the occurrences but attributed them to the overzealous actions of a vigilante group known as Yansakai, rather than kidnappers.

“It has been determined that these incidents involve the excesses of the Yansakai vigilante group, not kidnappers. The matter is currently under investigation, and appropriate measures are being taken,” SP Abiodun stated.
The community remains on edge as authorities work to address the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
