A non-governmental organisation (NGO), the South West and African Forum Federation (SWAFF) has promised to ensure that  historical artifacts found in  Europe, America and Asia, which belong to Africans are returned  to their  countries of origin.

SWAFF is working alongside another NGO, State of Africa in Diaspora (SOAD), on the project.

Resident Ambassador of SOAD,  Dr. Evelyn Eyo-Honesty Ogbogu spoke when the Adohose Otu Effiom community organised a reception for her at Biquo Town Calabar.

She said: “We Will repatriate all historical artifacts taken away from South South, South East and indeed all the geo-political regions of the country back to museums in the country.”

She explained that they have been going about the communities to sensitise them about their artifacts and how they can be returned.

“It’s the reason that the organisation has been calling on communities particularly in Nigeria who feel that their historical artifacts were illegally taken to other countries of the world to apply to the organisation for assistance.

“We are passionate and ready to give assistance to such communities.

“We did that and artifacts belonging to some communities in Edo state were returned to them.’’

She further assured that every piece of artifact that is of historical interest to communities in the country would be retrieved once they were alerted.
