Children of Akpamalenya community at Apo area of the FCT were on Saturday given food items and writing materials by members of the Abuja chapter of Organisation Mondiale pour l’Éducation Préscolaire (OMEP).

OMEP is a French acronym which means World Organisation for Early Childhood Education.

At the event held in front of the chief’s palace, the children were taught the importance of playing and techniques for washing hands with the slogan: “Cleaner Hands, Safer Lives”.

The President of OMEP, Abuja, Eugenia Essell, said the group was into advocacy for children, and that with the present COVID-19 pandemic, members of the organisation decided to visit the community to teach children who were vulnerable the need to stay safe by washing their hands at all times, as well as wearing face masks.

The Vice President of the chapter, Hon. Chinyere Ezenwokile, said the lockdown affected the children’s education greatly, hence the writing materials to aid the children in their studies at home.
