NGO empowers 70 Kaduna women with skills

About 70 women in Kaduna have been empowered with life-long skills aimed at ensuring that they have alternative means of livelihood.

The skills, including make-up, bead making and making house-cleaning agents: Vaseline, liquid soup, izal, among others, were impacted on the women at their doorsteps in Unguwan Yelwa area of Kaduna State.

Speaking on the initiative, the Executive Director of Giving Value to Women Initiative (GIVW), Caroline Idoko, said, “We realised that a lot of women are layabouts and we have girls that are not involved gainfully in any economic activity, and because of that, some of them are involved in vices. So we thought it wise that if we could come to the streets where they are and teach them skills, we would add value to their lives and thereby, step up their self-worth.”

One of the participants and mother of seven, Rose Hisent, said she would use the skills she had learnt to improve her life and that of her family.

“I learnt how to make Vaseline, but because I did not have the resources, I could not develop the business, but with this training, I am sure I will be able to train others,” she said.
