NFF presidency: Gara-Gombe cautions those jumping the gun

A former chairman of the Gombe State Football Association, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, has cautioned those eying the Nigeria Football Federation presidency not to jump the gun.

Even as the NFF is yet to vacate the Bayelsa High Court Order which would pave the way for electioneering activities to commence, at least five aspirants have already indicated their interest to replace Amaju Pinnick.

However, Gara-Gombe feels apart from jumping the gun, they are putting the cart before the horse.

“I think it is rather too early for such a declaration to be made by anyone. There is the issue of statute that has not been sorted while the NFF Congress would still have to sit and draw out the electoral guidelines as well as announce the election date.

“Whatever any one is doing at this time with regard to the election is hasty and it cannot amount to anything tangible at least for now,” he noted.

Meanwhile, some Nigeria football stakeholders at home and in the diaspora have urged him to declare interest in the NFF job having assessed that the major challenges bedevilling the country’s football over the years requires a credible administrator who is fearless, courageous, passionate and sincere at the helm.

Gara-Gombe at different times was two-time chairman of Gombe United FC, member of Gombe State Sports Council Board, Secretary General of Nigeria Football Stakeholders Forum and Special Adviser on Sports to former Kano State governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
