The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is presently battling to clear itself of any involvement in the ‘miraculous recovery’ of Super Eagles forward, Sadiq Umar, who was ruled out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to a knee injury.
The social media attacks on the NFF which the federation has since described as “incorrect assumptions” began soon after Umar who was replaced with Paul Onuachu, after the national team medics declared him unfit for the AFCON, was seen in a video on social media training with his Spanish club, Real Sociedad.
The lanky forward was said to have picked up the knock in the friendly match played against Guinea ahead of the ongoing AFCON.
Consequently, he was ruled out for at least three weeks which has left Nigerian football fans wondering how the player is back to training at his club within such a short period.

However, in a statement, the NFF said the player’s case “was approached with every sense of professionalism.”
“We are surprised at the news trending on social media concerning Sadiq Umar and how he was withdrawn from the team camp.
“The fact is that our medical team meticulously abided by the best medical procedures and were diligent in their processes and conclusions before advising Head Coach José Peseiro that the player be withdrawn from the squad.
“Most of the reports we have seen are not a true representation of what actually happened. We have a very competent medical team who are well-trained in sport and exercise medicine and highly experienced and exposed to the most modern techniques and practices.
“They followed all due processes and protocol in tandem with the consultant knee surgeon that the player himself contacted in Spain, before the decision was made in the interest of the nation and the career of the player,” said the NFF.
