Mr. Chiazor who made the observation at the commissioning of the new Vitamin A Fortification plant in Yola, Adamawa State, said the NFA which comprises over 50 organizations including NAFDAC and SON is currently partnering with State and Local Governments as well as small-scale producers of vegetable and flour to fortify their products with Vitamin A.
He explained that the overall strategy for micronutrient deficiency control in Nigeria comprises of Supplementation, Food Fortification, Dietary diversification, bio-fortification and Nutrition related public health measures.
According to him, the NFA and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) provided the platform for periodic monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the mandatory food fortification programme in order to meet intended objectives.
The NFA Chairman commended the efforts of Adamawa State Government, GAIN, NAFDAC and other members of NFA for the establishment of the Fortification plant while urging other state Governments to emulate this gesture.
