Newspaper vendors appeal for office space

The Association of Newspaper Distributors, Kano State branch has pleaded with the state government and newspaper proprietors to come to their aid by providing them new office space.

The secretary of the association, Malam Abdullahi Umar, who made the plea in a chat with Kano/Jigawa Chronicle, said the office they were previously using (for the past 40 years) in Galadima area of Sabongari had been sold and they have been asked to vacate the place.

“We are now operating on the roadside. We move around with the newspapers unlike before when we have an office where we keep unsold papers until they are collected to be returned to the publishers,” he said.

The association also called on government to include its members in its empowerment programmes.

“You know we are in the digital era where majority of people now read newspapers online. I used to sell like 300 copies before, but now I hardly sell 50 copies per day,” he said.
