The Abuja Newspaper Distributors Association (ANDA) has congratulated the Chairman of Media Trust Group, publishers of Daily Trust titles and owners of Trust TV and Radio, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, on his re-election as President of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) last Wednesday in Lagos during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association.

In a statement yesterday, the distributors’ President, Comr Emmanuel John, said Yusuf’s re-election was a right step in the right direction.

Emmanuel said his members had great confidence in the ability and capacity of Yusuf and his team to take NPAN to the next enviable level.

He assured NPAN of the maximum cooperation of the distributors in ensuring that the newspaper industry continued to survive despite all odds.

While stressing the need for NPAN to take seriously the issue of monetisation that has continued to hurt the newspaper industry, he appealed to the NPAN leadership to engage the federal government with a view to cancelling the policy so that money appropriated for newspapers could be used for that purpose.

On the decay of infrastructure at the Abuja distribution centre and distributors’ welfare, Emmanuel appealed to the NPAN leadership and members to contribute generously towards the erection of befitting structures and also review commissions on all titles from the present 30 per cent to 40 per cent.

This, he said, would alleviate the pains of distributors and vendors who were finding it difficult to cope with the current economic crisis in the country.
