NEWS EXTRA: Policeman robbed at checkpoint in Ogun

A policeman lost his AK-47 rifle when some hoodlums attacked a checkpoint in Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

An officer reportedly sustained injury in the attack which happened along Obasanjo-Itele road, on Sunday.

The hoodlums were said to have struck at about 3:11am.

Our correspondent gathered that one ASP Nasiru Azeez, Inspector Olabisi Lawrence and Inspector Atari Friday, were on duty at the checkpoint when the incident occurred.

A reliable source said Inspector Friday sustained injury on the head while the hoodlums snatched his AK-47 rifle.

It was also learnt that the AK-47 rifle was “carted away with 30 rounds of live ammunition.”

The injured police officer was taken to State Hospital, Ota for treatment.

The operatives are said to be making frantic efforts police to recover the lost rifle.

When contacted, the Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi said he has not been briefed on the incident.
