Residents of Davuw community in Jos-South Local Government Area of Plateau State were on Saturday thrown into confusion when a newborn baby was found dead on a dumpsite in the area.
Ishaku Pam, community leader of the area, who confirmed the development to City News in Jos, said the baby was first discovered by some scavengers who went to the area in search of iron and found the baby wrapped in a polythene bag.
According to him, “The baby was found wrapped in multiple polythene bags, and sadly, it was already dead at the time it was discovered. I was having a meeting on Saturday when people trooped to my house telling me that there was a problem in the community; that a newborn baby was found dead on a dumping ground. I rushed to the place and saw for myself that the story was true.”
The community leader said that he went back and reported the case to the K/vom police station, adding that the police went to the place and took the body to the hospital.
He called on residents of the area to be vigilant, adding that parents should often ensure that their female children who are married remain in their husbands’ houses even if there are disagreements.
Many residents of the area have lamented over the incident, describing it as wickedness of the highest order.
