New phase of anti-corruption campaign targeting lawmakers, departments and agencies of federal ministries in charge of capital projects implementation was launched on Monday in Abuja.

The organisers of the event, under the aegis of the Alliance for Credible Elections (ACE), a Nigerian Movement with support from the European Union (EU) said the platform is designed to expose representatives of the various constituencies who take delight in diverting funds meant for federal projects in their areas.

Addressing newsmen at the event, the acting general secretary of ACE, MMA Odi, said they are committed to reducing corruption to its bearest minimum through tracking of the federal capital budget and advocacy campaign against corruption to ensure socio-economic development.

“It is expected that a better implementation of the capital budget will impact on the quality of life of the majority of the people, especially the poor and vulnerable members of the Nigerian society,” she said.

Odi explained that already, they had been meeting and educating traditional rulers, youths, women leaders and other stakeholders at the grassroots about capital projects in their communities with specific attention to the 2015 budget.

She said that the essence was for the rural people to prevail on their representatives to execute such projects and not to divert the funds meant for that purpose.

“It is expected that a better implementation of the capital budget will impact on the quality of life of the majority of the people, especially the poor and vulnerable members of the Nigerian society,” she said.

Odi also kicked against amnesty for looters’ bill currently on the floor of the House of Representatives, saying, “we want all stolen monies recovered and those who stole public funds or looted public treasury should be prosecuted.”
