Oborududu eyes sixth Africa title in Congo

Nigeria 63 Kg wrestlers, Blessing Oborududu said her mission at the 11th All Africa Games is to win a record six times title.

Blessing Oborududu who is a five times Africa Champion said she is targeting to surpass the record set by her current coach, Tangi Oyinbrakemi on the Africa continent.

The Olympian who fail to feature at this year’s World Wrestling Championship in Las Vegas due to a last withdrawal by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation assured Nigerian of a slot at the Rio 2016 summer Olympic Games in Brazil.

“My present coach, Tangi Oyinbrakemi set a record in Africa and I am aiming to scatter that record in Congo. We spoke and I told her (Tangi) that this time around I will not leave any stone unturned” she said.

“It was painful that I could not participate at the World Wrestling Championship this year, but am assuring Nigerians that I will secure a ticket and hoist Nigeria flag in Brazil” Oborududu noted.

At the African Wrestling Championship in Egypt, Blessing Oborududu defeated Haiat Farag Youssef of Egypt by FALL, 6-0 to win her fifth Africa title.

Ebere says signing for PSG is ‘dream come true’

French club PSG Ladies has announced the signing of Super Falcons defender Ngozi Ebere for two seasons according to information released on the club’s website yesterday.

Ebere joins Paris Saint-Germain from Rivers Angels F.C after choosing Paris as her first experience of playing abroad.

The former Bayelsa Queens star commented on her new contract on the official PSG website “I am here to give the best of myself and to win trophies. I am very motivated by this new challenge that awaits me here in Paris. It’s a dream come true. ”

Farid Benstiti, PSG head coach, welcomed the arrival “Ebere is a Nigerian who plays left-back. It will be the complement of Laure Boulleau, which was much in demand during recent seasons. She has great potential and qualities that was shown in the last World Cup. She will need time to adapt, but her qualities will enable her to be ready fairly quickly.” Benstiti stated on the club’s website.

The 24-year old player recently represented Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 in Canada in which the African nation earned only a point from a very tough Group D.

Quadri bags one-year ITF scholarship to Morocco

Nigeria’s female table tennis star, Oyinlomo Barakat Quadri’s has been offered a year-long scholarship by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), following her impressive display at the 2015 ITF/CAT Junior Championship held recently in Rabat, Morocco

The 12-year-old sensation, who is West Africa’s best player in the 12 & under category, was in imperious form as she defeated opponents from Burundi, South Africa and Egypt in her singles matches at the one week event which featured over 60 players from about 30 African countries.

ITF Developmental Project Administrator, Frank Couraud in a letter sent to NTF President Engr. Sani Ndanusa from its London headquarters reads: Following the good results in the last six months, the International Tennis Federation is pleased to offer Barakat Quadre a scholarship to attend the ITF/CAT High Performance Tennis Centre in Morocco for the academic year 2015/2016.

“The Centre is proud to have players who won five titles of African champion in 2015. We believe that Barakat can take advantage of this high performance environment and achieve her maximum potential.

“Oyin has been one of the players whose progress has delighted the NTF. We are monitoring her career and we will continue to give her the support to make her rise to the top. Her talent and potential has never been in doubt and we are very proud of her achievement in the past few years,” Ndanusa said.

Niger Tornadoes get new management

Niger State government has constituted a new management committee to run the affairs of newly promoted Niger Tornadoes football club with Alhaji Adamu Aliyu as chairman.

The State governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello who approved the 10-man committee also dissolved the club’s advisory board with immediate effect.

The club former Team Manager Mallam Usman Garba is among the committee that includes Alhaji Musa Matane as vice chairman, former Enyimba international defender Mallam Abdullahi Abdul as the welfare officer, Alhaji Idris Auwal and Shehu Ibrahim will serve as marketing officers.

The marketing officers are to develop a template that would make the club run its affairs as a pure public liability company.

Other members include former El-Kanemi striker Mallam Tukur Muhammad as assistant welfare officer, George Daniel is the Media officer, Ezra Iyah as liaison officer while Mallam Lawal Ibrahim will serve as secretary.

The government expressed its appreciation to the former management for successfully returning the team to the Nigeria Premier League and tasked the new management to take the club to greater height

Awoniyi begins training with FSV Frankfurt

Nigeria U23 striker Taiwo Awoniyi has begun training with German Bundesliga 2 side FSV Frankfurt after securing his travel papers and visa in England, AfricanFootball.com can report.

Awoniyi, 18, is on a season-long loan from EPL side Liverpool.

“He has begun training with FSV Frankfurt after he got his necessary papers to fly down to Germany,” a source familiar with the player’s transfer informed AfricanFootball.com

Frankfurt, who finished 13th last season, are 12th on the table with seven points after six rounds of matches.

Their next game is on Sunday against the new club of Nigeria forward Obinna Nsofor, MSV Duisburg.
