New NSC chair pledges non interference

The newly inaugurated board of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has said it won’t constitute a stumbling block to the daily activities of the council but will rather support it through appropriate policies to drive growth.

The Chairman of the board, Lawal Sama’aila Abdullahi, made the promise while interacting with journalists in Abuja.

He said, “We are not here to cause problems; we are here to support you. We are here to work with you with all honesty.”

He said the board would focus on policy guidance like a supervisory role based on the existing rules and regulations establishing the NSC.

The Executive Secretary of NSC, Mr Emmanuel Jime, said now that the board was constituted “the management can now focus on the day-to-day delivery of functions of the Shippers Council, whereas the board will of course be focused on general policy direction. It is complementary and we expect that we will have a very harmonious working relationship.

“We are truly excited about the inauguration of the board. Because constituted among the membership of the board are returning members, which then means that there isn’t going to be a dislocation, so to speak, from the partnership that management enjoyed with the board that has just been replaced.”

He further said the board would also help the NSC drive its mandate, conduct businesses in the ports and improve ease of doing business.

He added that, “The NSC has a mandate, so I expect that our working relationship with the board will be tailored towards the achievement of those objectives.”
