The Sokoto State Government has declared Friday as a public holiday to commemorate the new Islamic year.
The announcement followed the declaration of Friday, August, 21 as the 1st day of Muharram 1442, by the Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

“The general public are hereby informed that the State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has declared tomorrow, Friday, 21st August, 2020 as a Public Holiday in commemoration of the new Islamic Year,” a statement signed by the Head of Service, Sani Garba Shuni, said.
The Governor wished all Muslims a happy new Islamic year as well as God’s guidance and blessings.
He also enjoined the people to continue to pray for peace and progress of the state and the country at large.
Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, had declared Thursday, August 20, 2020 as public holiday to mark the new Islamic year 1442AH.
