New Hijirah 1444: Muslims Charged to get familiar with lunar calendar

Muslims have been charged to acquaint themselves with lunar calendar as they mark the new Hijirah year 1444.

The President of Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi, gave the advice in Osogbo, Osun State capital at a press conference heralding activities marking the new Hijirah year celebration.

Olawuyi said the essence of Hijirah is to migrate from wrong to right and urged Muslim to imbibe the lesson.

He added that the new Hijirah year would be celebrated in Osun with Quran competition and a colloquium titled, ‘Good governance: Fulcrum of transformation; Islamic view.’

He said, “These lessons of Hijrah is to continue doing our duties to our Creator and Sustainer, the Almighty Allah and keep good relations with His creatures. If we do these, the whole world will be peaceful and be an abode of joy for all inhabitants.

“As usual, the programme is mainly to sensitise the Muslim Ummah to the importance of Hijrah calendar. The Gregorian calendar that is popular in this part of the world does not cater for spiritual needs of Muslims since we don’t rely on it to begin and end Ramadan fast, perform hajj, fast the three days in the middle of the month etc, but it is the Hijra calendar that takes care of all these spiritual commitments.”

Olawuyi expressed gratitude to Allah for peaceful governorship election in the state last week and commended all stakeholders in the election for ensuring that peace continues to reign in the state.

“In particular, I thank our able Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola who provided and aided the Hijrah project and contributed immensely to ensure we are in peace in the state.

“You have played your part well and the state will never forget your good work, your resilience, your reliance on your Creator and your belief that power belongs to Allah and He gives to whoever He wants at any given time. We pray Allah to partner you always in your future assignments and keep you alive for so more many years in the service of Allah and humanity,” he added.

He congratulated the Governor-elect, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke for his victory at the poll.
