The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, on Monday in Maiduguri, promised to end the Boko Haram insurgency soon.
Gen. Attahiru who inspected army formations, said far-reaching strategies and military campaigns would be conducted immediately to end the activities of insurgents in the country.

He said, “The process is that when you take over command, you visit troops and meet them first hand and they tell you what their problems are and you go back and articulate and ensure those problems are resolved.
“I have met commanders and received briefs and they told me exactly what their critical requirements are; the emphasis is on military effectiveness. So, we are bringing out things. You have seen the successes recorded, we want to cash on that and ensure the total annihilation of Boko Haram insurgents.
“We are working together with forces from the Republic of Cameroon and now we want to bring in the Chadians to ensure total annihilation of Boko Haram; that is what I can tell Nigerians. And this is not only in the North East theatre; we are ensuring that in all our operations in the other parts of Nigeria.”
