The new Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has solicited support and prayers from members of the university community and other concerned stakeholders to succeed.
He made the call according to the bulletin of the university on Friday shortly after being inaugurated by the pro-chancellor and chairman of the university’s governing council, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.

Prof Abbas expressed his appreciation to all staff that voted for him during the community parley last week where he polled 1,026 votes to beat three other contestants to get community acceptance and subsequently emerge the 11th vice chancellor of the university.
“I need all the cooperation of the council in order to deliver from the responsibilities that attached to the office,” Prof. Abbas said.
He also promised to prioritize staff and students’ welfare while assuring the university community of his utmost support.
He commended his predecessor, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello, for transforming the university’s standard in research, teaching and community services and wished him well in his future endeavors.
The pro-chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, congratulated the new VC and urged him to work assiduously with all the relevant stakeholders to maintain the university’s tradition of pursuing excellence in all ramifications.
Daily Trust Saturday recalled that Prof. Abbas received his appointment letter as the new VC on Saturday, 8 August, 2020 from the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari and Chairman of Council, Prof Gambari.
Abbas, a professor of Mathematics, started his career with the university as an Assistant Lecturer in 1991 and rose to become a professor.
He was a two term Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics and former Director, Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnerships (DRIP) of the university.
Prof. Abbas was appointed Senior Special Assistant to the former Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, from April 2010 to 11th September, 2013.
The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, Thursday commissioned the newly built Senate building of the university.
Adamu, represented by the registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, congratulated the school for the new development and expressed his satisfaction with the edifices put in it.
The new building was named after the former VC of the university and the current Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed.
