The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Wednesday inaugurated members of the new board of the National Para Sports Federations charged with the responsibility of developing para-sports in the country.

 The Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Ismaila Abubakar, said constituting the boards was to re-invigorate them in line with the federal government’s desire to re-position sports for effective service delivery and progressive agenda for job and wealth creation for Nigerian teeming youths.

 He expressed his delight at the election processes while imploring the federations to make Nigeria proud in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

 “I wish to express my delight at the report of the electoral committee that the election followed democratic principles of being free, fair and credible. I implore the Federations that will be participating in the 2022 commonwealth games to make Nigeria proud,” he said. 

 He further urged the board members to lift the para-sports to enviable heights while writing their names in gold.

 “It is my hope and belief you will use your proven integrity, knowledge and resources to render selfless and purposeful service to facilitate effective growth and development of sports in Nigeria,” he concluded.

 Responding on behalf of other federations, the president of Para swimming, Hon. Amobi Chikwendu assured the ministry of a good performance.

 The six boards of para-sport inaugurated are amputee football, para-athletics, para powerlifting, para soccer, para-swimming and sitting volleyball.
